Will the Police Ever Listen to Detained Black People?

We do not affirmatively know how many black people are killed by cops, because mainstream media rather report about cats in trees, dog shows, and spelling bees.  Many of the police incidents that result in black deaths such as George Floyd, Eric Garner, and Philando Castile were due to caucasian police not listening to their black victims. After detained black persons have explained situations or health concerns to caucasian officers, such as "I can't breathe," police officers typically disregard these pleas for help while continuing to apply pressure. Often we have seen officers on video respond to black detainees as if the detainees are bluffing, trying to make an escape, or resisting when simply trying to breathe.

Several instances of black persons in custody are told, "Stop resisting," after their hands are already restrained. This usually results in further abuse to by officers on black victims and detainees. However, we there are a plethora of incidents with armed caucasion suspects are treated with a higher level of respect when taken into custody.

When Dylann Roof, the white Charleston church shooter who killed nine black people was brought into custody, the police reportedly bought the 21-year old food from Burger King. Meanwhile, unarmed black men are killed, because police officers feel “threatened for their life [lives].” Police have to do a better job of treating black people with respect, or the lack of trust with police by the black community will continue.
